UK Bank Holidays 2027 Confirmed for England and Wales

The bank holidays 2027 list for England and Wales has been confirmed, and it holds eight days, as the Mirror reported on 18 September 2026. Every date except New Year's Day falls on a different day from 2026. Two changes do most of the work. Easter arrives a week and a half earlier than this year, and Christmas Day and Boxing Day both fall on a weekend, which creates two substitute weekday holidays.

What moves and why it matters

Easter 2027 falls on Sunday 28 March, so Good Friday and Easter Monday land in the last week of March rather than in April as they did in 2026. Anyone booking spring leave, school-holiday childcare or travel around Easter should check the dates again rather than rolling this year's pattern forward. The Summer bank holiday moves one day earlier, to Monday 30 August.

At the end of the year, Christmas Day falls on a Saturday and Boxing Day on a Sunday. The substitute bank holiday rule moves both to the following weekdays, Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December, which gives most employees a four-day Christmas weekend. Whether a worker actually gets those days off depends on their contract, because there is no statutory right to take bank holidays off as paid leave on the day itself.
